An Cheathrú Rua turns out to welcome participants in Rith 2012 |
Rith 2012, in which thousands of people will be running 700 kilometers, throught 74 town and 15 counties for 10 days is coming to Galway on March 16. The run will start in Loughrea that friday morning and will proceed through Galway City, Connemara and is expected to finish in An Cheathrú Rua at around 7.15 that evening. On the following day, St. Patricks Day, Rith 2012 will proceed to Inis Mór for its final day, when a large group of people run the last 23 kilometers of the 10 day run. The national run around Ireland is aimed to promote the Irish language and culture among the public. Rith 2012 started in Gaoth Dobhair on March 8th and the runners have carried relay batons which they have passed on during the run.
Seán Ó Domhnaill, a local co-ordinator of Rith 2012 in Connemara has said " We are delighted that Rith 2012 is coming to Galway. There is a great opportunity for individuals, schools, clubs and community groups to celebrate the Irish language in a fun way that is appealing to the public. Everyone is welcome to participate in the run and events are being organised in the individual towns to celebrate." Community groups, schools, clubs and individuals have purchased kilometers to take part in the 700 kilometer run.More information at www.rith.ie |
