RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta is celebrating 40 years on air this month. The station broadcast for the first time on Easter Sunday 1972 at 3pm.
Initially, RnaG started off broadcasting for only two hours each day and could only be heard in Gaeltacht areas.
Today it is now being broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week worldwide via satellite systems and the internet.
The public are welcome to Óstán na Ceathrún Rua on Easter Sunday next, April 8, where RnaG will be broadcasting live from the Rodaí as part of the celebrations. There will be food and music in the Hotel afterwards.
As part of celebrating 40 years of broadcasting, Baile an Droichid will be back on the air for 15 episodes during the summer.
Various concerts will also be heard in the coming months as part of the celebration, and the Irish President, Michael D. Higgins will visit the Headquaters in May.
