Speaking at the official opening of a national leadership course for officers of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in An Cheathrú Rua in the Galway Gaeltacht, the Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley T.D. said that education was at the heart of the Comhaltas since its inception and that its founders were particularly farsighted in their understanding of the importance of youth in developing and strengthening their Gaelic Culture. "I'm very pleased to be here today in An Cheathrú Rua, in the middle of the Gaeltacht, with these young people who are to be the future leaders of Comhaltas" said the Minister. This is a special year in the life of this organisation as Comhaltas has placed particular emphasis on the Irish language throughout the year. “You have successfully raised the status and awareness of the language and I congratulate you on organising the course entirely through Irish" the Minister said.
Up to 30 young members of Comhaltas are registered to attend this course. These are active members of Comhaltas all over the country. Ms Máirín de Brún, daughter of Séamus de Brún (former President of Comhaltas), is the facilitator for this course. Máirín was Director of Gaeleagras until recently.
